David Esquivel

Computer Science Student at the University of Southern California

Expected Graduation Date: May 2025

I thought the code.org lessons in 3rd grade had ruined my chances of ever seriously programming. Funny how now it’s basically become my life as a third-year computer science student at USC. As a First Generation student born of Mexican parents, I am beyond grateful for the opportunity and blessing to study the great field of tech.

My main priorities these days aside from my studies are my positions as Director of Software Engineering for Trojan Tech Solutions, Student Ambassador and Community Life and Culture Chair at the USC Caruso Catholic Center, and my non-existent solo drumming career.

My main goals are to inspire young, black and hispanic students to pursue careers in Tech as well as emphasize the power of personality and a smile behind the computer screen.

When I myself am not behind said screen, you can find me at a soccer field, beach volleyball court, basketball court, or record store near you. Aside from playing sports and collecting music, I really enjoy playing the drums (whenever I can get my hands on a set) and spending time with my friends and family, especially my little baby nephew, doing anything imaginable.

Discover Financial Services - Business Technology Intern

I am currently an incoming Software Engineering Intern at Discover Financial Services as a part their Business Technology Program in Riverwoods, IL! I am looking forward to gaining my first piece of invaluable professional experience, learning new technical skills, and meeting new people at Discover this Summer 2024.

Trojan Tech Solutions - Director of SWE

As the Director of Software Engineering for Trojan Tech Solutions, my main responsibility is to cultivate innovative solutions amongst our team to provide to clients, ranging from front-end site making to online payment integration to web traffic data analysis. Other responsibilities include the best quality practices and software development, hosting workshops for the holistic improvement of tech skills among the general body, and training/mentoring members on software technologies and best practices.

Trojans FC - Goalkeeper

I play goalkeeper for the UPSL club team on campus known as Trojans FC. This team is a student-run organization (as opposed to a USC-affiliated club team) that plays one level off the top tier of the United Premier Soccer League. After taking a break from organized soccer my freshman year of college, this was a nice way to continue my now 16 years playing organized soccer.

USC Caruso Catholic Center - Community Life and Culture Chair

In addition to holding a work study as a student ambassador at the USC Caruso Catholic Center, I now hold the position of Community, Life, and Culture Chair on the Student Executive Board of the center. My responsibilities as the CLC Chair include organizing all the social events held at the center, expanding outreach on campus, and building a community of relationships between students and Christ.

ColorStack SC - General Member

ColorStack is a national organization dedicated to increasing the number of black and hispanic graduates in the technology field. The USC Chapter is a particularly unique one filled with bright individuals with bursting personalities. Although I do not hold a leadership position in this organization (yet), it aligns perfectly with my vision and goal of increasing the minority demographic of blacks and hispanics in the field of technology and it is easily one of my favorite things to participate in on campus.
